Top six clubs compete in the qualification play-offs determining the winner of the league. The champion of the league qualifies to the AFC Champions League. The tournament does not have promotion and relegation rules.
According to the league rules, a team should have 20 or 23 players with the limit of 5 foreigners. The side should also include minimum three under-20 players.
The A-League logo represents a ball with eight sections that symbolize eight founding clubs of the league. Orange and ochre colors refer to the sun and summer (the season when tournament is held).
The most titled teams are Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar that claimed 2 trophies each. The top scorer of the tournament is Matt Thompson from Melbourne Heart who scored more than 180 goals.
2012 was a remarkable one for the Australian championship as the first ever world superstar, Alessando Del Piero, joined Sydney FC, which will nothing but add value and class to the League.
