Danish Superliga is the top tier of Danish football system. The title of the championship is contested by 12 clubs.
The league was introduced in 1991 with 10 clubs competing for the title. Before the season 1995/1996 the league was expanded to 12 sides with each one playing 33 games in a season (including one away and home matches, while the place for one more game is determined by the clubs’ positions on the table).
The champion of the league and the runner-up receive tickets to the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League, The third and fourth clubs compete in the UEFA Europe League. The teams that finish bottom and second to bottom are relegated to the Danish 1st Division.
The most titled team is Copenhagen with 9 trophies, Brøndby won the Superliga 6 times, AaB claimed 3 titles, while FC Nordsjælland, Herfølge BK, Silkeborg IF and Lyngby BK won one trophy each.
