The Eredivisie is the highest division of Dutch football. The championship was created in 1956, currently the league is ranked the 7th best in Europe.
The League includes 18 clubs. The club that finishes bottom at the end of the season is relegated to the Eerste Divisie (First Division), the teams that finish on the 16th and 17th positions take part in promotion/relegation playoffs, where they compete with first division clubs for the right to play in the top flight.
AFC Ajax claimed the biggest number of Dutch championship titles – 31, PSV Eindhoven won the league 21 times and Feyenoord took the title 14 times. Since the League foundation in 1965, these clubs have captured all but three titles (AZ clinched the trophies in 1981 and 2009, Twente finished atop in 2010).
The Dutch football league is famous for its young players that graduate from the team’s football academies and make the championship dynamic. The average attendance of the league is about 20,000.
