Football League One (League 1) is the third tier of the English football system. The competition was established in 2004. The tournament was previously called Football League Second Division (from 1992 to 2004) and Division Three (from 1958 to 1992).
The title of the league is contested by 24 teams. Each side plays every other once at home and once away. The clubs that finish first and second and the winner of the play-offs played between the sides from the 3rd to 6th spots receive promotion to Football League Championship.
Four teams that finish at the bottom of the table are relegated to the Football League Two.
