The National Division is the top football championship in Luxembourg, founded in 1910.
Throughout its history the tournament was known under such names as Championnat Luxembourgeois, the Premiere Division, Division d'Honneur and finally the Division Nationale since the season 1957/1959.
14 clubs compete in the tournament and the champion makes it to the Champions League qualification round. The second and third best teams have a chance to make part of the Europa League. The worst teams at the end of the year fall under a threat of being relegated to Promotion d'Honneur league.
Jeunesse Esch FC is the most successful club in the country with 28 titles. However, in the last decade F91 Dudelange faced little competition having collected 10 championships since 2000. This club is a regular at the Champions League qualifying stage.
