Allsvenskan is the top Swedish football league. There are 16 competing teams and each team play 30 matches per season. Before the year 2008 the top division included 14 teams. Two lowest teams of Allsvenskan drop down to Superettan and a winner and runner-up of Superettan promote to the top division. The third from the bottom of Allsvenskan face the third best team of Superettan in the play-offs and the winners competes in the top division in the following season.
The league winner gets a chance to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, the second and the third placed teams proceed to the UEFA Champions League. Allsvenskan winner is awarded with the Lennart Johanssons Pokal.
The league was established in 1924 and since then the team which competed in it for the largest amount of seasons is AIK. The most titled team is Malmö FF, by the year of 2013 they’ve won 19 championships.
