Aberdeen is a Scottish football club that was formed in 1903 when three teams from Aberdeen merged into one. The team started competing in the top flight in 1905, though the side did not enjoy much success until the early 1950s when under the tenure of Dave Halliday they reached the Scottish Cup finals in 1953 and 1954. In the season 1954/1955 the side won the Scottish League title. The next trophy followed in 1976 when they claimed the League Cup.
The most glorious era in the club’s history started in the 1980s when Alex Ferguson was appointed the head coach of the side. Aberdeen won three league titles and a Scottish League Cup. That time also included a record of three Scottish Cups in a row, which was the repeat of Rangers achievement in 1882. The success on the home front was accompanied by the European triumph that included the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
During the last two decades the club did not manage to approach their past achievements and despite playing in the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup finals in the season 1999/2000, Aberdeen did not manage to nick any silverware since 1995.
The team is often nicknamed the Dons, the Reds and the Dandies. The home arena of the club is Pittodrie Stadium that can hold up to 22,199.
