Al-Masry is an Egyptian club founded in 1920 in Port Said.
The club was organized after the Egyptian Revolution of 1919 in order to assert the national identity of Port Said people. That’s one of the reasons the club got this particular name as Al-Masry means ‘the Egyptian’ in the Arabic language.
The 1930s became the fruitful years for the club. They tasted their first honors winning the Canal Zone League in 1932. The team won another 16 consecutive Canal Zone titles since that time and established themselves as the most successful club in the tournament’s history. Al-Masry collected three Sultan Hussein Cups during the decade.
Al-Masry is one of the clubs that founded the Egyptian Premier League in 1948 and played in all its seasons since the league inception, except for two seasons of the Suez Crisis. However, Al-Masry is out of the 2012/13 Egypt Cup and the Martyrs Cup as the club’s fans caused the Port Said Stadium disaster in February 2012. The major Egyptian honor for Al-Masry was the Egypt Cup win in 1998.
The team wear the green kits as their home colours and white kits as the away colours. They play their home games at the 18,000 seater Port Said Stadium.
