Al Rayyan is a Qatari sports club founded in 1967. It has a number of sports departments but the football one is of major interest in Qatar.
The first run of the club into the top flight dates back to the 1972/73 season. Their first silverware wasn’t long in coming as the team won the Qatar Stars League in 1976 and even contested the title next season. Overall, Al Rayyan collected 7 Qatar Stars League honours throughout their existence. The club also welcomed four Qatar Crown Prince Cups, five Emir of Qatar Cups, four Confederation Cups and three Sheikh Jassem Cups to their trophy cabinet. Since 2005, Al Rayyan made four appearances in the AFC Champions League and one appearance in the AFC Cup.
The club is often nicknamed Al-Raheeb that means the Fierce in English. Their home matches are played at the 27,000-seater Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.
