The UAE Pro-League side Al-Wahda was founded in 1974 in Abu Dhabi.
Since their early years the team established themselves as a strong side in Emirati football. The pinnacle of their success came in the late 1990s when they claimed their first UAE League title and went on with another three league titles, UAE President Cup and two UAE Super Cups throughout the 2000s. During the last decade, Al-Wahda made five appearances in the AFC Champions League climbing up to the semi-finals in 2007. They’ve also took part in the Asian Club Championship and Asian Cup Winners Cup.
Al-Wahda can boast of the players who contributed much to the club’s success. Among them is Hussain Ali, the Pro-League’s best goalkeeper, Fahad Massaood who was awarded the Player of the Year title in 1999 and the 1998/99 league’s top scorer Al Bouri Lah. Moreover, the team’s current striker Ismaeil Matar was honored the Best Player in the World in the World Youth Championship in 2003.
The team play their home matches at the 18,000-seater Al-Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
