Al-Wakrah Sport Club is a football club founded in 1959.
The club hit the pinnacle of their career in the 1990s. They claimed their first major silverware in the shape of Qatar Sheikh Jassem Cup in 1989, and welcomed to more cups in 1991 and 1998. The year 1999 brought them true glory as Al-Wakrah tasted their first Qatar Stars League honors and won the Qatar Crown Prince Cup. As soon as 2001, they contested the top-flight title once again. In 2011, Al-Wakrah recorded the Qatari Stars Cup. On the continental arena, the team featured in the first round of the Asian Club Championship in 2001.
The team’s nickname is Blue Wave. The blue wave is also reflected in their crest and colours. Al-Wakrah play their home matches at Al-Wakrah Stadium that can hold up to 20,000 spectators.
