Astana is a football club from the city of Astana that was founded in 2009. The side appeared after the clubs FC Alma-Ata and Megasport merged, forming Lokomotiv Astana that later was renamed Astana.
The short history of the club already boasts two Kazakhstan Cups that were clinched in 2010 and 2012 and the 2011 Kazakhstan Super Cup, yet the side did not receive a ticket to the UEFA competitions as they have existed less than three years.
The highest result of the team in the top flight is the second place in the season 2008/2009.
The chairman of the club is Mels Kataev.The club attracted several famous football players including the Russian stars Tikhonov and Titov.
The home stadium of the team is newly-built Astana Arena that can hold up to 30,000.
