Atlético de Rafaela is an Argentinean football side located in Rafaela, Santa Fe Province.
Formed on January 13, 1907 the club was originally known as Club Atlético Argentino de Rafaela. It changed its name in 1915, adopting the name of Club Atlético de Rafaela. The club initially performed in the local league. It was only in 1989 that Atlético made its debut in the Primera B Nacional. In the 2002/2003 campaign La Crema clinched the second division title by gaining top spot. But the return was not a long stay as Atlético finished a lowly 18th and dropped down a division again.
In the following season the club finished Primera B in the fourth place but was defeated by Argentinos Juniors in the play-off matches. In 2009 Atlético again lost the promoción, this time to Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata. In May 2011 the team finally earned promotion after clinching the Primera B Nacional.
Blue and white is the main colour way in the club`s shirt. Estadio Nuevo Monumental with a seating capacity of 16 000 has been Atlético’s home since 1954.
