AJ Auxerre or Association de la Jeunesse Auxerroise is a football club in France, named after the commune it is located in. It was established in 1905 and in 1908 the team was the finalist of the F.G.S.P.F. French Championship.
Auxerre made its top division debut in 1980 and the 1983/84 season they finished third. That allowed the team to make European debut in the 1984/85 UEFA Cup, but they were eliminated in the first round. They reached the group stages of UEFA Cup/ Champions League in 1996/97, 2002/03 and 2010/11.
In 1995/96 Auxerre was the winner of Ligue 1, in 1994, 1996, 2003 and 2005 they won the Coupe de France. Between 1964 and 2000 the team was guided by Guy Roux.
The club has a football academy, where such footballers as Eric Cantona, Philippe Mexès, Laurent Blanc, Basile Boli, and Djibril Cissé were fostered.
