Beitar Jerusalem is a football club from Jerusalem that was organized in 1948. The first run of the side in the top flight dates back to the season 1954/1955. The season 1969/1970 saw the side finishing fifth in the leafue, but few seasons later the side even improved that result and was runner-up to Maccabi from Tel Aviv.
In 1975 Beitar was close to claiming its first silverware, but in the final of the State cup was defeated by Hapoel Kfar Saba 3–1.The following season they won the silver medals of the league and climbed to the final of the State Cup final again, this time beating Maccabi Tel Aviv 2–1 to claim their first piece of silverware.
The club’s second place was repeated in the season 1977/1978 and 1978/1979. The 1980s became the most glorious time in the team’s history when Beitar claimed the national Cup twice and finally celebrated victory in the national league in 1987.
The club’s fans waited for the next trophy for 20 years. In the season 2008/2009 the side under the helm of Yossi Mizrahi made its first double.
The crest of the team despite some transformations has always included the Menorah – one of the symbols of Israel. The team’s home stadium is called Teddy Stadium and has a capacity of 21,600.
