History and achievements
Blackpool is an English football team that was established in 1887.
The most glorious spell in the team’s history started in the 1950s, when Blackpool reached three FA Cup finals and finished in top six of the first tier four times. The season 1955/1956 was the time when Blackpool competed with Manchester United for the title of the first division, though finally the team tasted the silver medals.
The 1970s and 1980s saw the club playing in the minor divisions, only once winning silverware in the shape of the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1971, defeating in the final Bologna 2 – 1.
Blackpool’s rise from the bottom of football pyramid to the top tier was meteoric. In 1990 the side was in the Fourth Division, but 20 years later they finished a runner-up in the Championship and received promotion to the Premier League. They did not manage to secure a place in the top league in the first run and faced relegation a season later.
The nicknames of the club are the Seasiders, the ‘Pool and the Tangerines (refers to the color of their home jersey). “Progress” is the motto of the side.
The home stadium is Bloomfield Road that can sit up to 17,338.The major rival is Preston North End.
