Bnei Yehuda is a football club from Tel Aviv. The club was founded in 1936 by Nathan Sulami. The first run of the side in the top flight dates back to 1959.
In 1965 the team reached the final of the State Cup, but was defeated by Maccabi Tel Aviv 2 – 1. In 1968 the club repeated that achievement and that time outplayed Hapoel Petah Tikva, claiming their first silverware.
In the 1970s the team reached one more national cup final and finished fourth in the league, but it was the 1980s that are remembered by the fans as was one of the most successful times in the club’s history, when Bnei Yehuda claimed the State Cup in the season 1980/1981 and finished a runner-up in the league in 1981 and 1987. The season 1989/1990 gave the club true glory, when under the helm of Giora Spiegel they finally won the trophy of the national league.
In the 1990s the team enjoyed moderate success in the top flight and only managed to collect the 1991 and 1997 Toto Cups.
The club’s home ground is a 14, 000-seater Bloomfield Stadium. The most famous nicknames are the Neighbourhood, the Lions and the Goldens.
