Sporting Clube de Braga is also known as Sporting de Braga or simply Braga. The club was founded on January 19, 1921 in Braga, Portugal. The local club stadium is called AXA Stadium and was built specially for hosting UEFA Euro 2004 matches. Braga won Portuguese Cup in the 1965/66 season. The club became one of the most successful ones in Portugal, of course, behind the Big Three.
Sporting de Braga won several international titles including the UEFA Intertoto Cup. The 2010/11 season was very successful for Braga as the club reached the UEFA Europa League final. In the 2009/10 season the club finished second in the Portuguese championship and received an opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League.
Currently, the club’s main sponsor is an Italian company called ‘Macron’.
In the 1960s and 1970s the club began to ascend the championship ladder after a long period of decline. Sporting de Braga became a participant of European competitions. Every year the club organizes events to attract young talents, which testifies to the stable transfer budget per season. Clearly, throughout the club’s history there were numerous head coaches, but over last years Leonardo Jardim – a true professional of the trade – worked very good with the team. In 2012 the position was given to José Peseiro. The youth academy constantly feeds the main squad with newcomers who are soon not infrequent on the starting lineup. In the 2010/11 season Braga finished 4th in the Portuguese championship behind all Big Three clubs.
