SK Brann is a Norwegian football club located in Bergen. The side currently competes in the Norwegian Premier League. The club’s total comprises 3 Tippeligaen titles and 6 Norwegian Cups.
SK Brann can trace its roots back to the club formed by K. Gran and Birger Gjestland on September 26, 1908. At that time the club bore the name of Ski-og Fodboldklubben Brann, later switching to Sportsklubben Brann. The team’s first ever fixture was against a local team from Bergen that ended in a 1-1 draw. In 1923 Brann won its first silverware, defeating Lyn in the Cup final. Two years later the club claimed another Norwegian Cup triumph.
The 1960s were memorable for the rise of two true icons: Roald Jensen and Rolf Birger Pedersen. In the 1961/1962 campaign Brann rose to the pinnacle of Norwegian football with a title triumph. Another league title followed in 1963. However, it came as a surprise when in 1964 the team made the drop to the second tier. Three years later Brann returned to the top division. The 1970s saw the club lift two Norwegian Cups. In the 1980s Brann experienced an up and down existence. In 1982 the team again lifted the Norwegian Cup.
In the 1996/1997 season SK Brann reached the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners’ Cup to suffer a defeat from Liverpool F.C. In 2002 the club narrowly staved off relegation from the elite division. In 2004 Brann clinched the Norwegian Cup. Three years later the team finally managed to claim Tippeligaen titles after 44 titleless years.
