Brescia Calcio is an Italian football club from the city of Brescia founded in 1911.
The club began their way from the North League Group E in the 1913/14 season. Their first run into the top-flight Serie A dates back to the 1929/30 campaign. Since 1947 till 1965, the team set up a record of 18 consecutive seasons in the second division and it’s a tidbit that Brescia holds the record of spending the largest number of seasons, 53 in total, in Serie B since the league inception.
Brescia experienced hard times in between 1980 and 1982, as they relegated two seasons in a row thus falling from Serie A to Serie C. However, the club climbed back to the second division in 1985. The team’s historic campaign came in the 1993/94 season when they claimed their first and major silverware in the shape of the Anglo-Italian Cup beating Notts County FC in the final match.
Brescia had a fruitful period in the early 2000s after they signed a notable Italian national team player Roberto Baggio. It was Baggio who led the club to the seventh place finish in Serie A, their best result in the top flight. In 2001, ‘Baggio’s Brescia’ as the club was called during his stint, took part in the Intertoto Cup finishing as runners-up in the tournament.
The 2010/11 campaign was Brescia’s last season in Serie A. Since the 2011/12 campaign, they struggle in the Italian second division.
The team are often nicknamed Biancoazzurri due to their traditional white and blue colours. They play their home matches at Stadio Mario Rigamonti which can hold up to 16,308 spectators.
