Budapest Honvéd FC is a football club that represents the capital of Hungary, Budapest, in the OTP Bank Liga.
Honvéd FC started life on August 10, 1908 under the name of Kispesti Atlétikai Club. In 1926 the club captured the first major honour as the team claimed the Hungarian Cup. From 1949 to 1955 won 5 league titles. That period was also noticeable for the rise of such legendary players as Ferenc Puskás and József Bozsik. In 1956 Honvéd FC played in Europe for the first ever time.
In 1980 the club secured its first Nemzeti Bajnokság title after a wait of 25 years. The team would go on to win another 7 league titles, the last one dating back to the year of 1993. In 2003 the side disposed of the old title of Kispest Honvéd FC and became Honvéd FC. That year also saw the club go into decline and fall into the second tier. The side made a welcome return to the elite the following season. In the 2008/2009 season Honvéd lifted its seventh Hungarian Cup. In 2012 the team claimed a fourth-place finish in the OTP Bank Liga.
The team plays in red and black. Bozsik József Stadion is Honvéd’s home ground. The stadium can hold up to 10,000 people.
