
History and achievements
Burnley is a football team from Lancashire. The club was one of the founding members of the Football League in 1888.
The club played its first match in October 1882 against Astley Bridge and was defeated 8 – 0. Burnley spent first half of the 20th century yo-yoing between division 1 and division 2. The club claimed the title of Division 1 in the seasons 1920/1921 and 1959/1960. The team finished as a runner-up in the seasons 1919/1920, 1961/1962.
The farthest the team progressed in the European tournament is the quarter-final of the European Cup in 1961.
