The club was founded in 1963 in Bursa after unification of five local teams: Akınspor, Pınarspor, Acar İdman Yurdu, İstiklal, and Çelikspor. In commemoration of the unification the club emblem features five multicolor stars.
Due to colors of the emblem players of the Turkish Bursaspor got a very interesting nickname – ‘Green Crocodiles’.
The club owns the Bursa Atatürk Stadium with the capacity of about 25 000 seats. Currently Ömer Erdoğan (defender) is team’s captain. Ertuğrul Sağlam – team’s head coach – helped the club to the eighth place in the Turkish Super Lig in the 2011/2012 season.
