Carmarthen Town Association Football Club was founded in 1948 and began to play in the Welsh League in 1953. In 1960 they made their top division debut.
In 1995/96 the team won Welsh League and Welsh Football League Cup. In 1999, 2005 and 2007 Carmarthen Town was the finalist of the Welsh Cup. In 2005/06 the team qualified for the UEFA Cup due to their second place in the domestic cup tournament, while the cup winner Total Network Solutions, already won the domestic league. In the first round of the UEFA Cup Carmarthen Town overcame Longford Town and then were eliminated by the Danish side F.C. Copenhagen, losing 0-4 on aggregate.
In 2006/07 the team finished fourth and qualified for the Intertoto Cup, where they were eliminated by the Finnish team Tampere United. The Welsh Cup trophy, which they won in 2006/07, ensured a chance to play in UEFA Cup. In the first qualifying round Carmarthen Town was defeated by the Norwegian SK Brann. In the 2011/12 season the team was 11th in the league.
Richmond Park, where they play home games has a capacity of 3,000 spectators and has 1,000 seats.
