Ceará Sporting Club is Brazilian football club founded in 1914 in the town of Fortaleza.
Ceará got off to a flying start of their club career as they claimed their first silverware already in 1915. It was the Campeonato Cearense title. All in all, they won 41 state championships as of 2013. The first run of the club into the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A dates back to 1959. However, the 1970s saw their most successful period as Ceará spent 9 consecutive seasons in the top flight. Beginning from 1988 the club began to slide and spent the majority of seasons in Série B. They compete in the second division till the date.
Ceará made some progress in the Brazilian Cup run. They finished as runners-up after Grêmio in the 1994 edition and reached the semi-final stage two times, in 2005 and 2011. On the international scene, the team has made Copa CONMEBOL and Copa Sudamericana appearances.
Ceará play their home games at Estádio Presidente Vargas which can host up to 20,000 spectators.
