Cercle Brugge is a football club from Belgium. The club was created on 9 April 1899 by the students of the Saint Francis Xavier Institute. The club claimed its first national title in the season 1910/1911. Despite a heavy decline during the first years after World War I the team managed to revive and in the season 1925/1926 won the national title again. The third trophy of the league was clinched the following season when Cercle finished ahead of Antwerp in the race for the title. Yet ten years later in 1936 the team was relegated to the second division.
In the 1960s the team scarcely escaped relegation to the third division, for decades the side was floating up and down 2nd and 3rd leagues. In 1968 the name of the team was changed from Royal Cercle Sportif Brugeois to Cercle Brugge K.S.V.
The highest finish of the team is 4th place in the season 2004/2005.
Cercle returned to the Jupiler league in the 1980s, standing at a strong mid-position. In 1985 the club claimed the Belgian Cup, beating SK Beveren in the final on penalties.
The side also reached the final of the Belgian Cup in 1986 and 1996 but was defeated by Club Brugge on both occasions.
The official colors of the club are black and green.
