Cerro Largo is a Uruguayan football club based in the city of Melo. It was founded in 2002 and turned to be one of the youngest clubs in Uruguay.
In 2008, the team finished as runners-up in the Uruguayan Segunda División and won their first ever promotion to the top flight. However, they had a difficult start to the top league hardly escaping relegation. Still, in the 2009/10 season, Cerro Largo finished 15th in the table and dropped down to the Segunda División for a season. In 2011, they bounced back again and impressed with the 4th place finish that gave them a ticket to the first stage of the 2012 Copa Sudamericana. However, their continental success turned to be short-lived as Cerro Largo lost 1-4 on aggregate to Bolivia already during the first stage.
Such notable players as Fabricio Núñez, Sebastián Sosa, Pablo Tiscornia, Pablo Olivera and others had their spells at Cerro Largo. The team play their home matches at Estadio Arquitecto Antonio Eleuterio Ubilla that can hold up to 8,000 people.
