Club Brugge K.V. is a football club from the city of Bruges.The club was founded in 1891. The first achievement of the team dates back to 1920 when Brugge claimed their first championship title. Despite rising to the top of the league, in the 1920s the side failed to establish itself in the tournament and in 1928 was relegated to the second division. It was only in 1959 that the side fought its way back to the top tier.
The year 1968 brought the team the Belgian Cup thus marking the start of the most glorious era in the club’s history. In the 1970s Brugge under the helm of the Austrian coach Ernst Happel clinched 5 league titles and reached the final of the 1976 UEFA Cup that they lost to Liverpool. In 1978 Brugge progressed all the way to the European Champions Clubs' Cup, where they were beaten by Liverpool yet again 1-0.
During the 1980s and 1990s Brugge continued dominating on the domestic arena, overall collecting 13 trophies of the Jupiler league, 10 Belgian Cups and 13 Supercups.
