Consadole Sapporo is a Japanese football club based in in Sapporo, on the island of Hokkaido. It was founded in 1935, initially as Toshiba Horikawa-cho Soccer Club in Kawasaki, Kanagawa. In 1980 they were named Toshiba Soccer Club. In 1989 the team got promotion to Japan Soccer League Division 1. Then the team relegated themselves and in 1992 joined the Japan Football League.
The club’s owner decided to move the team to another hometown and chose Sapporo as there a new home stadium, Sapporo Dome, would be built by 2001. So in 1996 the club completed a move and since then they no longer belong to Toshiba. In 1997, the team was promoted to the J. League and since then they mostly played in J. League Division 2.
Sapporo Dome, the team’s home stadium, which they share with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters baseball team, has about 41,500 seats.
