History and achievements
Doncaster Rovers is a football club that was created in 1879. The side played its first match on 3 October 1879, though it was only a decade later that the team entered professional competitions and started playing in the FA Cup. The beginning of the 20th century saw then enter the top flight and even finish 7th which is the best result the club achieved.
The majority of the 20th century Doncaster spent playing either in the third or fourth divisions of the English football League.
During the 2000s the side was purchased by the Westferry Consortium that set the aim of returning to the second tier. In the season 2005/2006 the club reached the quarter finals of the League Cup and later earned a ticket to the Championship.
In 2007 the team clinched their first major trophy as they defeated Bristol Rovers 3-2 in the Football League Trophy final.
The club participated in the longest ever football game, playing against Stockport County on 30 March 1946 for 203 minutes.
In 2013 the club claimed the first place in League One and got direct promotion to the Championship. However, there were relegated back in their first season.
The team’s logo includes Yorkshire rose, the Viking image and a shield with the club’s initials. The colors of the club are red and white. The home arena is Keepmoat Stadium that can hold up to 15,230 supporters.
