F.C. Tokyo is a football club in Japan, Tokyo prefecture. Initially it was Tokyo Gas Football Club, based in 1935.
They made their start in the Japan Soccer League in 1991 and in 1997 the team won the JFL and joined the J. League Division 2. In October 1998, such companies as Tokyo Gas, TEPCO, ampm, TV Tokyo, and Culture Convenience Club created Tokyo Football Club Company to found a competitive team. In 1999, the team won the J2 and proceeded to the J. League Division 1. The following season they finished 7th.
In 2002, Hiromi Hara became the team’s head coach and brought them to the fourth place in the league in 2003, their best ever result. In 2004, F.C. Tokyo won the J. League Cup, their first title.
In 2010, the club suffered relegation, nevertheless the following season they won the J2 and, being in the lower division, they managed to win the Emperor’s Cup.
The team play their home matches at Tokyo Stadium (it is also called Ajinomoto Stadium), its capacity is 50,100.
