Everton to revive interest in Twente Fer

It looks like FC Twente box-to-box midfielder Leroy Fer has returned on Everton radar, as new Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is keen on signing the talented player.

Former Wigan boss is seriously considering the possibility of signing the 23-year-old Dutchman, as he is determined to expand his midfield options. It is to be recalled that Fer, who has been compared to legendary Patrick Vieira, was on the verge of making a switch to Goodison Park in January, but the deal collapsed after the midfielder failed to pass his medical.

Twente are unlikely to settle for anything less than £8 million. Fer is an established leader for his side, having made 47 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and setting up another 11. Midfielder has also earned two Netherlands caps.

De Vrij and Clasie extended their deals with Feyenoord

Feyenoord have been given a huge boost with the news their star players Stefan de Vrij and Jordy Clasie have signed new deals with the club.

Speculations have linked both De Vrij and Clasie with moves away from the club, with a host of top European sides interested in their services. The latest transfer rumours suggested De Vrij Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United were preparing offers in summer. Clasie, in turn, has been watched several times by Fiorentina scouts, with the Serie A side being apparently keen on landing the talented midfielder.

And yet both players have effectively put an end to those speculations by prolonging they contracts with the Dutch club. De Vrij is tied down until 2015, while Clasie is set to remain at the Feijenoord stadion until 2016.

De Vrij said: “It makes me happy to know I can continue to be part of this team and club for longer. I can see the potential here and of course I am pleased that Jordy remains for longer here too.”

Claise admitted: “It means a lot for me, I’ve played for Feyenoord for 14 years and it has been fantastic. I want to stay longer with this club, I’m really enjoying myself here.”

Former Dutch international Pierre van Hooijdonk in an exclusive interview for FootballTop.com shared his thoughts about the Legends Cup in Moscow where he played in February, explained why the Eredivisie sides fail to impress in Europe and talked about his ambitions in journalism.

You played for the Dutch team at the Legends Cup-2013 in Moscow. What are your impressions about the tournament?
The competition is great. We were happy because we did not expect to claim a high place, but we managed to defeat Germany and finished fourth. Overall the most important thing is that I can play with my friends.

Do you perceive this tournament as an entertainment or a competition? And how do you get motivated for friendly games?
We wanted to win this year, but with Russia in the group it is almost impossible. We know we will take the third or the fourth place at best. But frankly speaking I always aim as high as possible.

What is your opinion about Feyenoord’s run this season, the club where you spent three seasons?
They are doing really well. They have got some talented players and they have improved a lot in the last couple of years. They have a good coach now and the way he builds the team clearly makes them play better.

But unfortunately Dutch teams do not succeed in European competitions. What are the reasons for that?
The main one is that top European clubs are buying our players at a very young age. Dutch clubs cannot compete with Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid in financial aspects.

Do you believe that trend will change in the future?
No. We just have to accept our position in the word of football.

What are your goals and aspirations in the life without football?
I set my eyes on making a career on television as a football pundit. Currently I write a column in a monthly magazine, but it is only a start.

Feyenoord youngster is a prime target for the Italian side.

The 21-year-old international Jordy Clasie caught the attention of top European clubs with his impressive performance for Feyenoord this season with the player netting two goals and making six assists.

The Viola head coach Vincenzo Montella has reportedly identified Clasie as the most important transfer target for summer transfer window as the Dutch starlet will provide strong addition to their midfield.

The player’s transfer is estimated around £5.7m.

Tottenham, Arsenal target Feyenoord Clasie

North London sides are set to battle for the signature of the highly-rated Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie touted as “Dutch Xavi”.

21-year-old Clasie is described as a busy little player with box-to-box ambitions. Although he is apparently lacking physical presence to be compared to Patrick Vieira, he could be undoubtedly considered useful player for any top Premier League side.

Despite his relatively young age he has established himself as a first team regular at De Kuip. The Dutch midfielder has recently earned his first cap for Holland national team.

Tottenham are lining up a move for Feyenoord centre-back Bruno Martins Indi in a bid to strengthen their defense.

The Spurs’ boss André Villas-Boas is believed to be concerned with the number of goals his team has been conceding (33) and is looking to expand the defensive options by adding several quality players. 21-year-old Bruno Martins Indi, capable to play either as a centre-back or left-back has been assessed by the Tottenham scouts who recommended his candidature as an excellent addition to the squad.

Despite his relatively young age the player has established himself as a first –team regular at De Kuip, making 23 Eredivisie appearances this season.

Several top Premier League sides eye De Vrij

Sky Sports states that Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd are set to battle for the signature of highly-rated Feyenoord midfielder Stefan De Vrij.

However the Dutch side is unlikely to let the 20 year-old Holland international leave for anything less than £10 million. The current De Vrij’s deal is set to expire in summer 2014.

De Vrij has made 9 appearances for his club so far.
