Gamba Osaka is a football club in Japan, which is located in Suita, Osaka. They currently play in the J. League Division 1.
It was founded in 1980 but at that time it was named Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. soccer club. The team included players from the defunct Yanmar Club. Since the foundation of the J. League in 1993 the club has been the member of J. League and since then has always been the top-flight team.
In 2005, Gamba Osaka as well as four more teams was close to the J. League title but they managed to win the match against Cerezo thus gaining the title.
In autumn 2008, the team reached the final of the AFC Champions League for the first time in their history and eventually managed to win the title. In winter Gamba Osaka reached the semifinals of the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup, where they lost to Manchester United. In 2008, they won their first ever Emperor’s Cup and the following year won that title again. They gained the J. League Cup in 2007 and in 2005 they were runner-up. In 2012 Gamba Osaka were relegated from the top flight but managed to get back the following season.
Gamba Osaka’s home stadium is the Osaka Expo ‘70 Stadium and it has 20,000 seats. It is located in Expo Commemoration Park.
