Gefle Idrottsförening is a football club in Sweden, located in Gävle. It was founded in 1882 and initially skiing, skating, rowing and some playing sports were introduced in Gefle Sportklubb. In January 1983 it was renamed to Gefle Idrottsförening and the football team made its debut in 1989.
Their Allsvenskan debut was in 1933 but in 1935 they faced relegation. The next period in the top flight was between 1983 and 1984. In 2004 Gefle IF was runner-up in Superettan thus advance to the top flight. Their following achievement was the second position at the 2006 Svenska Cupen.
The team’s name, Gefle IF, is the old name of the city the club is located in. Their home ground is Strömvallen, which has a capacity of 7,302.
