Göteborg

IFK Göteborg is a football club in Sweden. It is named after the city it is located in. The team was established in 1904 and the debut match was a 4-1 win against IK Viking. In 1908 they won their first championship and since its creation and till 1921 the team hadn’t had a coach. In the first season of Allsvenskan they were runners-up and they made it to their first league title in 1934/35. In 1937/38 IFK Göteborg faced relegation, nevertheless they advanced the following season, and during the wartime they won the league title in 1941–42, after that they had a period of average success.

The team claimed the championship title in 1969 but were relegated the following season and competed in the second division until their promotion in1976. In 1979 Sven-Göran Eriksson was appointed the head coach and led the side to the second position in Allsvenskan and helped them to win Svenska Cupen. In 1981 they were second in the league and reached the quarter-finals in the UEFA Cup. The following season turned out a success for them as they were Swedish Champions, they also won Svenska Cupen and the UEFA Cup. Since then they claimed league titles in 1984, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 2007. In 1983, 1991 and 2008 they were Svenska Cupen winners. European achievement was the 1986/87 UEFA Cup.

IFK Göteborg plays the home matches at Gamla Ullevi, which has a capacity of 18,800.
