Halmstads Bollklubb (also named Halmstad or HBK) is a football club in Sweden. In March 1914 the club, which had been founded little earlier, became a member of Riksidrottsförbundet. The since following year they competed in Pokalserien. They won that local tournament in1920, 1921 and 1925. In 1928 Division 2 Söder was established and the team started to compete there. In 1933 Halmstads BK made their top division debut and finished that season third. In 1936 they relegated with second worst result. The following year Halmstads returned to Division 1 but at the end of the season they dropped down. In 1939 they won Division 2 and competed there during World War II before they advanced in 1942. In 1946 they relegated. Since then Halmstads had a period of mixed success, they faced ups and downs before they won promotion in 1954. In 1959 the team was second last and dropped to Division 2. The following decade the team was in decline, relegating to Division 3 and then promoting back.
The team won Division 1 in 1971 and 1973, in 1979 they were Allsvenskan winners. They first European success came in 1977, it was the UEFA Intertoto Cup win. Since 1980s the team had an average success for a long period, they competed 19 seasons in the top flight and in 2011 they relegated to Superettan.
Örjans Vall is Halmstad’s home stadium but it doesn’t meet the European requirements and the team is forced to play European matches on other grounds.
