Hapoel Be’er Sheva is an Israeli football team from the city of Beersheba that was founded in 1949. The first time the side reached the top flight was in 1965.
In their inaugural season in the first league Hapoel Be’er Sheva finished 13th. The most successful spell in the club’s history started in the 1970s when the team won the title of the league in the seasons 1974/1975 and 1975/1976. After a short decline in the early 1980s, Hapoel again became one of the main title contenders finishing third in the season 1982/1983 and reaching to the 1984 State Cup final.
In 1989 the club claimed the Toto Cup, the achievement that was repeated in 1996. In 1997 the team finished atop of the Israeli Premier and clinched the State Cup.
In 2007 the club was sold to Alona Barakat who set the mission to make the side successful again. The Camels is the most popular nickname of the team.
The home ground is Vasermil stadium that can sit up to 13,000.
