Heracles is a professional football club from Almelo, Netherlands. The team was founded on 3 May 1903, taking its name from the mythical demigod son of Zeus. Heracles is famous for inviting the first black football player Steve Mokone to play in the Dutch national championship.
The club’s home stadium is the 8,500 seater Polman Stadion that was built in 1999. The average attendance is 8,300.
The team claimed the titles of the Eredivisie in 1927 and 1941, yet at that time the championship had amateur status.
In the season 2011/2012 the side finished 12th on the standings, but in the Dutch Cup it progressed to the final, where it was beaten by PSV.
The current manager of the team is Jan De Jonge, the chairman is Jan Smit.
