History and achievements
Sport Club Internacional is a Brazilian football side from Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. The club is a dominant force both in its state and in Brazil. Inter`s rivalry with Grêmio is a historic one. The derby is known as Gre-Nal.
On April 4, 1909 the Poppe brothers decided to form a football team. It was then that the club`s history started. The 1970s belonged to Internacional. The team managed to deliver 8 successive Campeonato Gaúcho and 3 Brasileirão titles. In 1979 Inter set up a national record by going unbeaten throughout the whole season.
In 2006 the club clutched Copa Libertadores medals for the first time in its history. Inter also boasts another international triumph, the 2006 Club World Cup, which was secured by defeating Spanish giants Barcelona. The club also captured the Recopa Sudamericana in 2007 and the Copa Sudamericana in 2008. The year of 2011 saw the team lift another Recopa Sudamericana. Now Internacional is a holder of all South-American cups.
