Karpaty is a football club from the city of Lviv, Ukraine. The team was created on 18 January 1963. The name of the team refers to the Carpathian Mountains, one of the landmarks of the region. The first match of the team was held on 14 April 1964 when Karpaty defeated FC Zenit Izhevsk 1-0.
The club made its debut in the Soviet First League in 1968. One season later the team became the first Soviet side that claimed the Soviet Cup while still competing in the first league. In the final of the tournament the club defeated the Army team from Rostov-on-Don 2-1.
From 1970 and to 1977 Karpaty played in the Soviet Top League and in the season 1975/1976 even managed to finish 4th. In 1981 Karpaty merged with another Lviv team, SKA Lviv. Firstly the club was named SKA Karpaty but eight years later the original name of the club was restored.The highest achievements of the team are the 3rd place in the Ukrainian championship and silver medals of the Ukrainian Cup.
The nicknames of the team are Green-Whites and the Green Lions.The main rival of the club is Volyn Lutsk. The home stadium of the club is Arena Lviv that can sit up to 34,915 fans.
