History and achievements
FC Krylya Sovetov is based in Samara. The club was founded in April 1942. In July 1944 Krylya Sovetov made their debut in the Soviet Cup. The team lost to Lokomotiv Moscow in the last 32 round with a devastating 1-5.
Krylya Sovetov played their first USSR championship match (second group) at their home ‘Lokomotiv’ stadium in Samara (called Kuibyshev at that time) in 1945. It was a game versus Torpedo Gorky (currently, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod) which ended in a draw – 1-1. Already next year Krylya Sovetov played a debut game in the USSR top league championship versus Zenit (Leningrad) which took place in Alma-Ata and was lost by the team from Samara 1-2.
FC Krylya Sovetov played in 48 USSR and 13 Russian Championships as well as in 43 Soviet and 13 Russian Cups.
In the second round of the 1953 championship the team played under the name ‘Fakel’. They made their European debut only in the beginning of the twenty first century, in July 2022. It was the UEFA Intertoto Cup first round match – the Samara team defeated Dinaburg (Latvia) thanks to goals by Robertas Poškus, Andrei Karyaka and Rogério Gaúcho. The team was successful in the second leg as well – the only goal was scored by a young talent, Anton Bober.
In 1951 Krylya Sovetov finished fourth in the USSR championship. In 2004 they won bronze medals of the Russian championship. In 1953 and 1964 the team played in the Soviet Cup final games which could only be modernly repeated in 2004.
