Club Atlético Lanús is an Argentinean soccer club located in Lanús, Greater Buenos Aires.
The club was established on January 3, 1915. Four years later Lanús won its first promotion to the first division after outclassing Argentino de Quilmes. In 1927 the team finished the Primera División in the third place. The year of 1949 saw Lanús drop to the second tier.
The 1950s are the club`s most successful years. Lanús won promotion to the elite division as champions of the Primera B. In 1956 the club finished runners-up though being plagued by numerous injuries throughout the campaign. In 1977 Lanús slipped into the second division. It all went badly wrong the following season as the team suffered relegation to the third division. With the debts greater than $2 mln, the side faced an incredible decline. In 1986 Lanús began its resurgence as the club earned promotion to the second and later to the first division.
The first international title arrived in 1996. Lanús was crowned COPA CONMEBOL champions after securing a 2-1 victory over Independiente Santa Fe.
In 2003 the club moved to its new stadium. Three years later Lanús took part in the Copa Sudamericana and the Copa Libertadores. The year of 2007 saw the team clinch the Primera División title. In 2011 Lanús finished second in the Clausura.
