Lech Poznań is a Polish football club. The name Lech refers to the mythical ancestor of the Polish nation.The club was founded in 1922 under the name Lutnia Dębiec, yet in the course of its history the title was changed several times. From the early 1930s to the 1990s the team was closely connected with Polish State Railway and this link subsequently gave the side its famous nickname the Railway man (Kolejorz in Polish).
The first time the side played in the top flight was back 1948; the time of success though came only in the 1980s and 1990s when Lech claimed five titles of the league, three national cups and two Polish SuperCups.
The farthest the team progressed in the European competitions was the round of last 16 of the 2010/2011 UEFA Cup where they lost to Braga 1–2 on aggregate.
The home arena of the team is the municipal stadium in Poznan with a capacity of 43, 000. Originally opened in 1980s, the facility was reconstructed during the 2000s before it hosted a couple of matches of Euro 2012.
The club has a strong and wide fan base in the country. Lech supporters are famous for their particular goal celebration when they turn their backs to the pitch, join arms and jump up and down.
