Leeds United is one of the most popular football teams in England that was established in 1919. The team played most of its history in the top flight of English football.
The most successful period in Leeds history started in the early 1960s when Don Revie took charge of the team. He created one of the strongest English team of that time with players that were dedicated to the coach and club. Leeds clinched the League Championships in the seasons 1968/1969 and 1973/1974, the 1972 FA Cup, the 1968 League Cup and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cups in 1968 and 1971. Starting from 1965 and up to 1974 the team never finished out of top four. Leeds also managed to reach the European Cup Winners Cup finals in 1973 and 1975, but lost to AC Milan and Bayern Munich respectably.
The last major achievements of the side are the 3rd place in the Premier League in the season 1997/1998 and the semi-final of the Champions League the same season. After that successes Leeds endured financial problems and slided into the Third Division, returning to the Championship only in 2010.
The nicknames of the team are the Whites and the Peacocks.
The home ground is Elland Road and it has a capacity of 39,460.
