Llanelli Association Football Club was formed in 1896 and won the Welsh League division one in 1913/14, 1929/30 and 1932/33. Between 1922 and 1951 they made many attempts to enter the Football League (where English and Welsh teams compete), but failed.
In 1992/93 Llanelli was a founding member of the League of Wales nevertheless in the 1995/96 season they faced relegation. In 1998/99 they advanced but the 2003/04 season they spent in the second division.
In 2005/06 Llanelli were the league runners-up and the following season made their European debut in the UEFA Cup. In the first qualifying round they defeated Gefle IF 2-1 on aggregate but then were eliminated by OB Odense, losing 1-6 on aggregate.
The team was runner-up in the Welsh Premier League in 2008/09, 2009/10 and in 2007/08 they were the league title winners. In 2008/09 Llanelli debuted in the UEFA Champions League and were knocked out by the Latvian team FK Ventspils.
Llanelli play their home matches on Stebonheath Park. The stadium has a capacity of 3,700 spectators and has 1,000 seats.
