Maccabi Netanya is an Israeli football club that was founded in 1934. The first major achievement of the team was the final of the 1954 State Cup, where the side lost to Maccabi Tel Aviv 4–0. Maccabi finished third in the season 1968/1969, but two seasons later they clinched the title of the league. This success marked the start of the most glorious spells in the team’s life when in the 1970s the team won the national league four times. The season 1977/1978 brought the club the national title as well as the State Cup.
In the season 1982/1983 the side repeated their best achievement and collected both the title of the league and the League Cup.
In the late 1980s and 1990s Maccabi did not enjoy much success at the domestic championship and it was not until 2005 when the club was bought by a famous businessman Daniel Jammer for $ 1,500,000 that the results of the club improved dramatically and Maccabi finished a runner-up in the seasons 2006/2007 and 2007/2008. The following season Lothar Matthäus was introduced as a new club manager, yet his tenure lasted only for half a year.
The main rival of the team is Beitar Nes Tubruk Netanya. The nickname of the team is the Diamonds. The home ground is called Netanya Stadium and can sit up to 13,800.
