Metalurgi Rustavi is a football club in Georgia. The predecessor of current team is Merani, which was founded in1991 and based in Tbilisi. In 2002/03 Marani was renamed to Olimpi Merani and in 2003 the name was changed to FC Tbilisiю
In 2005 the team faced financial difficulties and sold about 30 players, replacing them with youngsters from the academy. Nevertheless the team remained in the top flight.
In the summer of 2006 FC Tbilisi merged with Olimpi and their new owners moved the club to Rustavi. In 2006/07 they claimed Umaglesi Liga victory, the following league title came in 2009/10. In 2008/09 they were the finalists of the Georgian Cup. In the 2011/12 season Olimpi changed its name to Metalurgi Rustavi.
Poladi Stadium, the team’s home venue, can house 10,720 spectators.
