Molde Fotballklubb is a professional football club located in Molde, Norway. The side currently performs in the Norwegian Premier League.
On June 19, 1911 the modern Molde Fotballklubb was born. The first competitive match took place on August 5, 1911 against Kristiansund. In 1974 the team gained promotion to the top division. The club’s maiden campaign in the elite division came as a welcome surprise as the team finished the season in the second place. The 1980s were rollercoaster years for Molde. The club experienced several relegations and promotions, reached the Norwegian Cup Final in 1982 and claimed silver medals of the 1987 Tippeligaen campaign.
The team was hit by financial woes after it was demoted from the elite division to Adeccoligaen in 1993. A year later promotion to Tippeligaen followed. It was an astonishing year in which Molde captured the first major honour. The 1990s saw the rise of legendary striker Ole Gunnar Solskjær. In the 1999/2000 Champions League campaign the club qualified for the group stage for the first ever time. On November 6, 2005 Molde claimed its second Norwegian Cup triumph.
In 2011 Ole Gunnar Solskjær returned to Molde but this time as a manager. He guided his team to two consecutive league titles. Successful seasons against the odds in Tippeligaen as well as Europa League appearances see the club’s name spread around the world.
Since 1998 Molde’s home matches are staged at Aker Stadion.
