Newell's Old Boys is an Argentinean football team located in Rosario, Santa Fe. Their rivalry with Rosario Central is a historic one.
The club was formed by the graduates of the English High School of Rosario on November 3, 1903. They called themselves Newell's Old Boys in honour of their coach Isaac Newell who actually was a pioneer of Argentinean football. Los Leprosos were crowned Primera División champions on five occasions. The club also reached the Copa Libertadores final in 1988 and 1992 but unfortunately came out on a losing side.
The club`s official colours are red and black, taken from the national flags of Germany and England. Home matches are played at Estadio Marcelo Bielsa.
Such world-class players as Fabián Basualdo, Abel Balbo, Marcelo Bielsa, Gabriel Batistuta, Gabriel Heinze and Lionel Messi began their rise to stardom in Newell's Old Boys.
