Newtown Association Football Club was founded in 1875 and initially was named Newtown White Stars. It was a founding member of the Football Association of Wales. The early period of the team was marked with the Welsh Cup wins in 1878/79 and 1894/95. The following title came in 1955 and that was the Welsh Amateur Cup.
Since 1920s the team competed in the Mid-Wales League and throughout that period was the league title winner in 1975/76, 1978/79, 1981/82, 1986/87, 1987/88.
In 1992 the club was a founding member of the League of Wales. In the 1994/95 and 1997/98 seasons they finished the League of Wales runners-up. In 1996 and 1998 Newtown played the UEFA Cup qualification matches against Skonta Riga and Wisla Krakow, losing on both occasions.
Latham Park in Newtown has a capacity for 5,000 spectators with 1,150 seats. The team’s kit color is red for home matches and yellow shirts and blue shorts for away matches.
